Episode 221 - You Don't Need to Know Who You'll Become

Keith:

Hi I'm Keith and welcome to Lighter Than It Started. It's Sunday and today I'd like to explore a question that quietly sits beneath many of the others we ask ourselves. Who am I becoming? Perhaps it's not a question we ask out loud very often. Instead it appears in different forms.

Keith:

Am I making the right decisions? Am I on the right path? Will all this lead somewhere meaningful? Behind each of those questions is the same quiet hope that one day we'll become the person we're meant to be. It's a comforting thought but I wonder if sometimes we imagine that person as though they're waiting for us somewhere in the future.

Keith:

Finished. Complete. Certain of themselves. As though one day we'll wake up and finally arrive.

Intro:

No more doubts. No more learning. No more growing. Just

Keith:

there. Yet when you think about the people you most admire the people who seem wise kind and grounded do they really seem finished or do they simply seem willing to keep learning? Perhaps that's the difference. Maybe becoming isn't a destination at all. Maybe it's the way we travel.

Keith:

Think about an old oak tree. It doesn't spend its life trying to become an oak tree. It simply grows. One season at a time. One ring at a time.

Keith:

Some years bring sunshine. Some years bring storms. Yet every season quietly becomes part of the tree it is. Our own lives are rather like that. The joyful moments shape us.

Keith:

So do the difficult ones. The conversations we never expected. The mistakes we'd rather forget. The unexpected opportunities. The quiet Tuesdays that seemed completely ordinary at the time.

Keith:

All of them leave something behind.

Intro:

A little more patience. A little more understanding. A little more compassion.

Keith:

Sometimes we become wiser without noticing it. That's one of the curious things about growth. It often happens while we're busy living not while we're looking for it. Perhaps that's why comparing ourselves to an imagined future version can feel so exhausting because we're comparing today's chapter with a book that hasn't been written yet And books don't work like that. Every chapter matters not only the last one.

Keith:

So as this Sunday quietly unfolds perhaps let yourself become curious rather than certain. Instead of asking 'Who will I be in five years?' Perhaps ask What is today quietly teaching me? Because whatever the answer is it's already becoming part of who you are. You don't need to know exactly who you'll become. Life is wonderfully patient.

Keith:

It reveals us to ourselves a little at a time and perhaps that's exactly how it was always meant to be. Today's thought for you. You don't need to know who you will become. Thank you for sharing this moment on a Sunday with me and as always I hope you end today feeling lighter than you started. Very gently and I'll see you tomorrow on the flip side.

Keith:

Lighter than You Started is a think of something publishing production.
