Episode 208 - You Don't Need to Prove It's Going to Be a Good Week

Keith:

Hi I'm Keith and welcome to Lighter Than You Started. It's Monday and perhaps you've noticed that Mondays can sometimes arrive with an unspoken challenge. A feeling that we need to make a good start. Not simply because it's helpful but because we believe the start somehow determines everything that follows. If we get through today's work.

Keith:

If we're productive enough, if we're organised enough, if we tick enough things off our to do list then perhaps we have earned the right to believe it's going be a good week. It's an understandable way to think. We all like reassurance. We all like signs that things are heading in the right direction. But I wonder if sometimes we ask Monday to answer questions it simply can't answer.

Keith:

At 09:00 this morning you couldn't possibly know how this week will unfold. You don't know which conversation might make you smile. You don't know what unexpected opportunity could appear. You don't know what challenge might quietly teach you something valuable. You don't know who you're encouraged or who might encourage you.

Keith:

Monday doesn't know these things either and perhaps it doesn't need to. Sometimes we treat the beginning of the week like an exam as though by lunchtime we should already have evidence that everything is going to work out. But life has never really worked that way. Some wonderful weeks begin quite ordinarily. Some difficult weeks begin brilliantly.

Keith:

The first few hours rarely tell the whole story. Think about reading a novel. You wouldn't expect to know whether you'll love it after the first chapter. You certainly wouldn't stop reading because page 12 felt a little slow. You trust that the story still has time to unfold.

Keith:

Perhaps our weeks deserve the same patience. Perhaps today isn't here to prove anything. Perhaps it's simply here to introduce the next few pages. There's something quite freeing about that. Instead of looking for proof that this will be a successful week you can simply become curious about what it might hold.

Keith:

Curiosity asks much less of us than certainty. It doesn't demand predictions. It simply stays open. Open to learning. Open to surprises.

Keith:

Open to plans changing. Open to discovering that some of the moments we never expected becomes the ones we remember most. Maybe the week won't unfold exactly as you've imagined. Perhaps that's not something to fear. Perhaps it's where life quietly does some of its best work.

Keith:

So if today feels ordinary that's okay. If today feels busy that's okay too. If the day doesn't immediately reassure you that everything is going to plan that's okay as well. You don't need Monday to prove that this will be a good week. You only need to let today be today's contribution to a week that hasn't finished writing itself.

Keith:

And maybe that's one of the kindest ways to begin. Not by demanding certainty. Not by demanding perfection. But by allowing the story to unfold one day at a time. Today's sought for you.

Keith:

You don't need to prove it's going to be a good week. Thank you for sharing this moment and as always I hope you end today feeling lighter than you started. Go gently and I'll see you tomorrow on the flip side. You can now listen to the Lighter Than You Started podcast on Alexa. Simply say Alexa play the Lighter Than You Started podcast.
